In 2007, the Porsche
Carrera Cup GB will again be one of the most
important and prestigious race championships
in Britain and will be a major support race
to the MSA British Touring Car Championship.
The new season will be the
fifth year of Carrera Cup in Britain,
modelled on Porsche's long-established
world-wide Carrera
Cup concept.
Equal cars, close and exciting racing and
first-class facilities for teams and drivers
all add to the strength of the championship.
The successful pro-am
category ensures that the less-experienced
and non-professional racers can compete for
their own points and prize money within the
overall championship. In total, the
championship prize fund is almost £100,000
and the overall champion will also win the
use of a Porsche 911 road car for a year.
The latest 911GT3 Cup car,
introduced for the start of the 2006 season,
has been a big hit, with 400bhp, a
sequential gearbox and a superb chassis. The
car has earned rave reviews from drivers and
teams alike.
With Richard Westbrook,
Damien Faulkner and Danny Watts all moving
up into international racing, the pedigree
of the Carrera Cup GB as a proving ground
for star drivers is well proven. Westbrook
secured the 2006 Porsche Supercup crown in
2006, while both Faulkner and Watts have
successfully re-established their racing
careers after promising single-seater
careers faltered through lack of funds.
